Health classes explained
The four classes—Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus, and Standard—explained: what each category means and what factors determine which one you fall into.
Carriers assign rate classes based on health and risk factors. Names differ slightly among carriers, but the framework is the same: Preferred Plus, then Preferred, then Standard Plus, then Standard.
What underwriters look at
Carriers review your body composition (height and weight relative to age and gender), blood pressure and cholesterol levels, whether heart disease or cancer runs in your family (and how early), your driving history, past prescriptions, and other records.
How to use the quote tool
The health field asks you to categorize your own state of health: Excellent suggests Preferred Plus, Very Good suggests Preferred, Good suggests Standard Plus, Fair suggests Standard. The underwriting process will confirm or adjust this based on actual medical data.
Susman Insurance Agency helps you identify carriers whose underwriting is tailored to your medical situation, which typically has a bigger impact on your final rate than the rate class shown here.
